ITINERARY

DAY 1:

After breakfast, you will depart from Keys Hotels Travel & Tours and begin your safari to Lake Manyara National Park.

Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, which spends most of the day spread out along the branches of Acacia trees six to seven metres above the ground.  Nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, the park is noted for its incredible beauty.  As visitors enter the gate, they pass into the lush forest, home to troops of baboons and both blue and vervet monkeys.  Further along, the forest opens up into woodlands, grassland, swamps and beyond the soda lake itself, covering 200 square kilometres and sanctuary to over 400 species of bird including flamingo, pelican, stork, sacred ibis, cormorant and Egyptian Geese. The park is particularly noted for its huge herds of buffalo and elephant, as well as giraffe, hippo, reedbuck, warthog, wildebeest, zebra and a great variety of smaller animals.

During your private tailor-made safari, you will be accommodated in or near the parks as described below.

The days will be spent giving you the best game-viewing experience possible in each park, with either morning and afternoon game drives or full day excursions.  If you are opting to do a "drive-in" safari, the drive between parks may be broken with cultural visits to local villages or historical hotspots and further game-viewing, guaranteeing that your transfers are far from boring.

Your itinerary is fairly flexible from day to day and options may be discussed with your guide before setting off for the day.

Lodge Safari Vehicle includes the following:

Private, spacious 4x4 safari vehicle with large windows, game-viewing hatches, either fridge or cool-box for drinks, and inverter for charging batteries.  All your fuel, vehicle entry fees, and game drives.  Our guides are professionally trained and look forward to sharing their beautiful country with you.

Gratuities at your own discretion.

DAY 2 & DAY 3:        SERENGETI

The Serengeti National Park is arguably the best known wildlife sanctuary in the world.  Serengeti means “endless plains” in the Maasai language and, within its boundaries, are more than three million large mammals. About 35 species of plains animals may be seen here, including the so-called “big seven” – buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, cheetah and African Wild Dog.  The black rhino population of the Serengeti has developed well in recent years thanks to constant surveillance.  Other animals frequently seen in the Serengeti include baboons, caracals, civets, bat-eared foxs, genets, giraffes, hippos, honey badgers, hyraxes, mongooses, ostriches, serval, both Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, vervet monkeys and some 20 types of antelopes including hartebeests, impalas, kudus, reedbucks, roans, topis, waterbucks and the much smaller dik dik, duikers, klipspringers and oribis There is, of course, also a profusion of birdlife.  Over 500 species including bustards, cranes, eagles, herons, owls, storks, vultures and the bizarres, long-legged secretary birds.

Accommodation will be at Serengeti Sopa Lodge in a standard room on a full board basis for two nights.

Located on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the plains of south-western Serengeti National Park, home to many thousands of wild and rare animals, Serengeti Sopa Lodge lies within an area of outstanding natural beauty.  An oasis of cool relaxation from the equatorial sun.

The lodge allows guests to experience magnificent sights and enjoy interaction with the land and animals difficult to find elsewhere, whilst at the same time enjoying the highest level of cuisine and hospitality.

Unlike most lodges throughout East Africa, the main building does not have a traditional African thatched roof.  Instead, it has a flat roof which is often used for cocktails, sundowners, and private parties.

However, when you step down from these lofty heights into the sudden coolness of the reception lobby and move on, you will find stairs and ramps which either take you down to the dining room, with its outdoor terrace and simply delicious and sumptuous meals that are to die for, or across to the conference room before descending further to the ground floor.

The lodge consists of 69 standard rooms, all with 2 queen-sized beds, carpeted, and tastefully furnished with local fabrics and pictures.  On entering the room, you will find the lounge with a minibar.  On the front is a veranda with two comfortable chairs and coffee table, with glass windows facing the vast Serengeti plains which extend as far as the naked eye can see.

The open dining area is spacious and airy with lots of light emanating from the floor to ceiling windows, which allow magnificent views of the plains.  The furniture is wrought iron chairs and wooden tops, all artistically done.  The walls are painted in a mud red colour with window-like spaces holding artefacts found in the region.  Behind the buffet area is a shimmering blue placement, like a glass mosaic, adding to the theme.

The bar is set in a corner with a view over the Serengeti plains.  The bar area is strategically placed with an uninterrupted view and has a terrace for seating with comfortable chairs

Serengeti Sopa Lodge includes accommodation on a full board basis and tourism levy.

Gratuities at your own discretion.
